The omelette challenge!

11998923_10207043790240678_2091146469461075056_nWe had barely been at the Tonbridge Farmers’ Market five minutes when we were approached by John the Baker (@BakerJohnKent) to take part in the famous omelette challenge – only 33 seconds to beat (the record set by John).  No pressure there then!  I will admit that as I have made omelettes before and as Russell had not ever made one (even though he does all the cooking at home) I did think I stood a fairly reasonable chance.  No way – with beginner’s luck on his side, Russell showed me what a quick learner he was.

Tonbridge Farmers’ Market really is a market unlike no other.  Organised by Steve Wood (@LoveChillies) and with Matthew Kearsey-Lawson (@KentFineFoods) as market compere and live music on the main stage, there is plenty to keep you entertained as you browse the stalls selling fresh, local produce and local arts and crafts – and you may end up on stage taking part in the omelette too.

IMG_4209There was also a surprise chef guest this month, Hilary Steel who is spearheading a “spudvolution” as she takes potatoes to the next level.  She is bringing the spud back to life and cooked up some fabulous recipes for market goers to enjoy.  You can find out more on her website worldofpotatoes.com

There is also a stand allocated for a local charity each month and this time it was the turn of ellenor so we got to catch up with the lovely Angela Ward on our adventures.  If you’re not familiar with this charity then as luck would have it we had Rachel Holweger, Fundraising Director for ellenor on show number 19.  You can catch it here.

The market runs on the second Sunday each month from 9.30am to 1.30pm.  It really is a must see if you like picking up some fresh produce and want to experience a new level of Farmers’ Markets.  Visit the website for further information – tonbridgefarmersmarket.co.uk – and maybe we’ll see you there next month!

As we’re taking more and more videos on our adventures we have also created a YouTube channel where we’ll upload anything fun and of interest.  Check out our first video taken by Russell when I was on stage – YouTube – The Community Show Channel.
